MEET THE TEACHER

Meet_the_Teacher

Dear Parents and Carers of Newtown Public School,

I am writing to extend a warm invitation to our 2021 Newtown Public School Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday 4th March.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions that are still in place in all NSW Public Schools we are unfortunately not able to run our much-loved P&C Welcome Event and this year we cannot accommodate parents for Stage Information nights due to restrictions on numbers.

Instead, this year we will hold a Meet the Teacher Night. This will involve one parent or carer for each child attending classrooms to meet the teacher and to visit the classroom space. We hope that parents and carers will bring their child with them so that they can give you a tour of their classroom.

Our school staff look forward to meeting you or to reconnecting with you, as we continue to grow our strong partnership in learning for 2021.

With COVID-19 restrictions still in place, we have planned to ensure this event will run smoothly and safely for all.

The event will follow these important safety precautions:

  • As we are limited in the number of visitors on site at any one time we ask that only one parent or carer attend for each child in your family.
  • Only Year groups will be allowed on site at any one time. If you have children in different Year groups you are welcome to attend all relevant sessions.
  • Each Year group will have a 30-minute window of time.
  • Teaching staff will be on the top playground to supervise siblings.
  • All parents and carers must enter the school via the White Horse Lane entrance (Top Gate).
  • When you arrive at your child’s classroom you will be required to check in using the NSW QR code and sign a NSW DoE sign-in register. Bringing your own pen would be helpful.
  • After your session we ask you to exit via the ramp onto the basketball courts (via the Bottom Gate).
  • Thank you in advance for your co-operation with adhering to timeslots and following entry and exit instructions.
Session Times
  • 3:30-4:00pm - Kindergarten (Please stay for afternoon tea from 4:00-4:30pm)
  • 4:00-4:30 - Year 1
  • 4:30-5:00 - Year 2
  • 5:00-5:30 - Year 3
  • 5:30-6:00 - Year 4
  • 6:00-6:30 - Year 5
  • 6:30-7:00 - Year 6
If you are unable to make it to the Meet the teacher, there will be other opportunities in the coming terms.

We will also connect with you in these ways:

Stage Information Enews

On Monday 1st March, you will receive an email from the Assistant Principal with an overview of learning, relevant library days, event dates, class logistics and homework expectations. You will also receive a link to our school website where all of this information is at your fingertips. If you have any general questions about the class program and logistics please to email them to the classroom teacher who will collate the questions and answer them for everyone on the night.

Student Led Conferences

These will take place in Weeks 9 and 10 of Term 1. The Student Led Conferences are an opportunity for your child to share their learning, successes and goals with you. Teachers guide students in preparing for these as part of our goal setting program. These will be held via Zoom or in person.

We’re always here:

If you would like to organise a time to touch base with your child’s teacher regarding your child’s learning and wellbeing, please email the class teacher directly to organise a time to meet up separate from the Meet the Teacher Night and Student Led Conferences.

We look forward to welcoming you into Newtown Public School!

Regards
