NAPLAN:

WHAT IS IT?

The National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment test in reading, writing, language conventions. (spelling, grammar, and punctuation) and numeracy.

WHO TAKES THE EXAM?

Students in Years 3 and 5 in Primary and Years 7 and 9 in High School from all government and non-government schools participate in this assessment.

WHY DO STUDENTS TAKE THE NAPLAN ASSESSMENT?

NAPLAN measures the literacy and numeracy skills of your child at the time of the assessment.

The results of these assessments will provide important information to our school about each student’s achievement and will provide valuable data that will be used to supplement our internal assessments and support teaching and learning programs.

Parents / carers will receive a report indicating your child’s level of achievement, comparable to the rest of their cohort, and the state.

HOW DO STUDENTS TAKE THE ASSESSMENTS?

Students will sit the same test, at the same time over three days and will complete NAPLAN Online in groups across a period of ten days. Year 3 students will complete the Writing assessment on paper.

NAPLAN ONLINE: is a tailored assessment that adapts to the student’s responses, presenting students with questions that may be difficult. This provides a better assessment and more precise results which gives a lot more insight into students’ achievements.

HOW CAN WE SUPPORT OUR CHILDREN?

The best way to support your child through NAPLAN is to encourage them to do the best they can on the day, plan for early nights, a steady start to the morning  with a  good breakfast. This is key to students coming to school with balanced mind frame for positive participation in this annual assessment program.

All students will be well supported to do their best by staff at school.

WHEN: Commences Tuesday 11th May and will conclude in Week 5.

WHAT TO BRING: All students must bring a set of headphones (not Bluetooth) by Monday 10th May, if they haven’t already. The headphones will remain at school for the duration of the assessments.
