Staff at Newtown Kids College

All the staff at Newtown Kids Cottage (NKC) come with a sense of fun, great enthusiasm, and a caring and nurturing attitude towards the children. NKC currently has 12 staff to 4 permanent staff supported by a team of 8 casual staff.

The day-to-day running and management of NKC is carried out by our nominated supervisor, Carlie Henderson. Carlie is supported in the centre on a daily basis by our 3 other certified supervisors—Christine Anastasiadis, Chrissie Psylliakos and Heather Flyght.

Within our team of casual staff, we have a mixed ratio of long timers and new. We often see old faces come back to the service. See our staff board at the centre for more information on our current staff.

This service complies with the working with children check as required by the commission for children and young people and all staff and volunteers undergo screening checks. We encourage staff to undertake ongoing professional development, and they complete a variety of relevant training courses each year to keep up-to-date with safety, programming and activities for children.

Management committee

NKC is a parent run service and staff are employed to operate the service. NKC is an associated incorporation and on payment of the annual registration fee each family becomes a registered member of the association.

The centre is an incorporated association led by a volunteer parent-based management committee that is responsible for the financial affairs, staffing, and general operation of the centre.

All parents and carers are encouraged to attend management committee meetings, and to get involved in the management of the centre. The management committee is elected annually and regular meetings are held in accordance with the articles of registration. Members of the committee will consist of parents, users and interested community members. The meeting dates are announced in the school newsletter. A contact list of current committee members is available on the parents' information board.

The current positions that form the central part of the management committee are chairperson, secretary, treasurer, staff liaison officer, parent liaison officer, parents and citizens’ liaison officer and maintenance liaison officer.

The committee holds general meetings once per term and holds an annual general meeting to elect the office bearers and receive the annual reports.

Without the support of parents the service would not be able to operate.
