Activities program

The program aims to provide activities to suit all ages and interests, both indoors and outdoors. Our programmed activities encompass a broad theme, changing every 5 weeks. Each week consists of games, arts, crafts and research activities inspired by the weekly subtheme. Children have the opportunity to participate in a range of organised activities as well as free play.

Funded by the Australian Sports Commission, the active after school communities (AASC) program enables us to engage specialized sport coaches to the centre twice a week from 4 to 5pm to run kid-focused sports sessions, such as tennis, dance, martial arts and more. We regularly consult with participants regarding the types of activities they would like to try.

The coaches are especially great at running a program that suits ages from 5 to 12 with a mixed skill base. Days vary each term to ensure the sessions are available to all. With no extra cost to parents, this successful program has been running at NKC since 2005. Visit the ausport website for more informtion and details.

The big kids club at NKC is a specialised program aimed at our Year 5 and Year 6 kids. The program is designed to encourage independence, a sense of accomplishment and agency as well as fostering self-esteem and some life skills. Activities vary, consisting of science experiments, active outdoor games, cooking, indoor team challenges and more. The big kids club also work on long-term projects with limited adult involvement and showcase it at the end of year party. In the past, these projects have included a Lego creation film and milk bottle igloo.

Each week, a written program outlining the activities for the week will be on display on the family notice board.
